The Shakers placed great emphasis
on serving delicious meals, both for their members and
for guests from “the world”. Choosing the
best available ingredients and preparing them in new
and inventive ways, the Shakers continually set the
standard for consistent high quality in their dining
rooms.
Here at the Shaker Table, Chef Adam
Olson and his staff continue the Shaker’s tradition.
When composing his menus he draws from two formidable
resources. One is the vast repertory of shaker recipes
culled from books and manuscripts. The other can be
seen just across Shaker road, where Chef Adam chooses
the best of the village’s produce to feature on
his menus. Tender lettuces, heirloom tomatoes and aromatic
herbs come from the Church Family Gardens. Lush raspberries
and blueberries come from the berry patch that has been
tended for decades. Crisp apples of every sort are picked
at their peak of freshness in the old orchard.
For a unique dining experience, try
our Shaker Family Lunch on the third floor, featuring
a traditional meal served much as the Shakers themselves
did, communally and in abundance.
